I swing my bare legs over the port side of the catamaran. A cool, ocean breeze nibbles at my toes; the spray of salty sea foam reaches up and nips my thighs.

“So, Captain Masen,” I grin, adjusting Edward’s silly sailor cap over his head, loving the way the bright, starry sky illuminates the green in his deep, lusty gaze. “We’re over a hundred miles from the nearest shore, with no other ships or souls to be seen. No phones, no TV, no computers. Surrounded by nothing but sea, fish and stars. What oh what are we going to do all alone out here for the next couple of weeks until we reach civilization once more?” I ask, trailing a rounded fingernail down his forehead, past that Greek-god nose and those pouty, twitchy lips, and past that right-angled jaw of awe, only lingering when I reach one of his nipples. I giggle aloud at the way it puckers at my touch.

He grins that sexy grin of his, the one that’s always clearly spelled out all those indecent thoughts of his; the one that always makes my pelvic muscles clench nice and tight. Wrapping a hand around my errant finger, he stills its motion and leans in, closing his warm lips around my earlobe. Gently sucking, his warm breath washes over me like the smooth waves of the ocean surrounding us, and I may as well be a jellyfish. My bones turn to mush. I am an invertebrate.

“Deep-diver…” I breathe, dropping my head.

He chuckles, big, strong hands circling my waist, pulling my chest flush against his to keep me from slinking straight into the dark waters below – just like a jellyfish.

“Oh, Beautiful Bella,” he grins coyly, “lucky for you, I’ve got both the ideas and the equipment needed to take you deep…for quite a while.”

It wasn’t until Edward grabbed my wrists and began to shake me that I started to see sense again. “Stop it!” he yelled. “Fucking stop it. You’re scaring the fucking kid.”

“Is the car out front?” I asked pointedly.

“Nah.” He grinned. “I had to park it since you were late.”

I sucked in a deep breath, reminding myself I wasn’t in Toronto anymore. Obviously they did things…differently here.

“Shall we go, then?”

He nodded. “Yeah, sure. Hope your coat’s warm. It’s colder than a witch’s tit out there!”

And with that cheerful announcement, he walked through the door, letting it shut in my face.

My coat billowed behind me, my eyes instantly blinking in rapid succession at the freezing temperature. I followed Seth’s quick pace to the garage, almost groaning with relief when we walked into the cement structure.

He looked at me askance. “You should have done your coat up, man!”

I glared at him, my patience now thin. “You should have offered to take my bags so I could button up my fucking coat! In fact, you should have had the car warm and waiting for me!”

His cheerful expression fell and his eyes widened. “Shit,” he whispered. “Bella is gonna kill me.” He lunged forward, almost ripping my case from my hand and dropping my garment bag. “Don’t tell her, please? She trusted me to do this! I’ll make it up to you!” He dropped my case as well, now both of them sitting on the dirty, cold cement.

“I can’t believe they’re making all that racket already,” I mutter, looking through the pile of paperwork in front of me.

“Hey now, the Docs warned us in the monthly meeting last Thursday. It’ll be three weeks of hell, but then we’ll have a nice, new bathroom and two completely new exam rooms,” Jessica says, handing me the chart I’ve been looking for.

I look up and sigh. “I know. It’s just so...noisy. God, nobody said anything about having to speak louder. I mean, I had to yell at Mr. Watkins to take off his clothes earlier and I think he actually enjoyed it.”

Jessica giggles and leans in. “That old bastard is a handsy one.” She gives me a pointed look, and I shiver in what can only be disgust.

“Do I want to know?” I ask, because my curiosity goes way beyond being grossed out. Pretty sure I’ve seen it all in my eleven years working in this clinic.

“Let’s just say he thinks I look like his ex-wife.” She closes her eyes and then shakes her head. “To put it mildly, he was still...very...attracted to her even after the divorce.”

A laugh bubbles from my belly and I put my hand over my mouth to stifle it. It’s noisy as hell in here, but I would hate for one of our patients to overhear our conversation. “Are you serious?”

Jessica looks around covertly, then whispers, “He’s hung like a horse.”

Tears roll down my face and my giggle turns into a guffaw. I’m tired and with the combination of the noise pollution and my bad mood, this is exactly the kind of platitude I need to brighten my morning.

“Thanks for that, girly,” I tell Jessica as she rushes off to her next patient, while I look through that chart to locate Mrs. Armstrong's test results. She’ll be here in a few minutes and I need to make sure her chart has the final results from her last blood tests for Dr. Cullen.

Some days, it’s as if I’m more of a secretary than a nurse, but then I love it here and wouldn’t trade it for the world—noise pollution be damned.

Has someone in your family been affected by leukemia? Have you always wondered what lymphoma really is? Fandom4LLS was formed to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!

About our cause:

Approximately every 4 minutes one person in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Cancer has affected many of our lives. I have met many survivors who have had to rebuild their lives since they were diagnosed. Worrying about who will take care of their children if they die and if the treatment will actually work. Their stories have touched my life and I hope they will touch yours as well.

Fandom4LLS is hoping to not only bring awareness to these cancers but to put a face to the name. We encourage you to explore the site and find something or someone you can connect with.

Throughout the event we will be spotlighting Real Life Heroes who have lived with cancer, but have not let it stop them from achieving their goals and more. You can read about remarkable Louie Bonpu and others now.

All author pieces must be submitted by August 15th and all donations of at least $10 must be submitted by August 30th. This gives you almost 4 months to convince your favorite authors to participate!
